Doggie Bag Lasagna

Doggie Bag Lasagna

Jamie and Merrill were on their way back from a formal affair. They had spent the weekend in Pennsylvania and now they were taking the New Jersey Turnpike through the backwoods of southern New Jersey. It would be a couple of hours before they would exit New Jersey via the George Washington Bridge and the from there only fifteen minutes to their house in The Bronx.

Merrill, still dressed in his Tuxedo was driving. Jamie in her slinky green sequined halter dress was sitting next to him in the passenger seat. On her lap, Jamie carried a tin of lasagna. The lasagna at the event was delicious, but the happy couple who threw the event had made too much. The guests were asked if they wanted to take some home. Thrifty Jamie thought it was a good idea. She took an entire tin of lasagna with them.

"You didn't have to take that. I thought you made lasagna before we left."

"There are different meats and cheeses in this one. It's like having an entirely new type of lasagna. Besides we need to save every penny, Peter is going to college next year."

"He got a full scholarship."

"That doesn't matter, there are always expenses. The scholarship doesn't include when Peter goes out with friends."

"Whatever, won't it spoil on the way home. It's well over a three-hour drive." Merrill tried to recover.

It'll be fine. Don't worry about it. You just keep your eyes on the road."

Between two particularly long exits, dad started to complain. "We have to pull off."

"You have to go again?"

"Yeah."

"I told you to go before we left."

"I did. I did. But it comes on so suddenly."

"So you are going to pull off at the next exit?"

"Yeah. We'll have to find a restaurant there."

They drove for a few more minutes.

"I'm not going to make it!"

"Don't think about it. It's not that much farther."

"I think I'd better just pull over here."
